Project Description
The project supports Berqesh Municipality in developing local Solid Waste Management (SWM) Plans. These plans address both institutional development and technical design to produce an integrated, effective, and sustainable SWM system.
Major Activities
- Assist Berqesh Municipality to design and develop detailed, and realistic, local SWM plans for sustainable SWM.
- Employ participatory methods to include stakeholders’ and community members’ concerns in the implemented plans.
- Coach municipal staff on developing local SWM plans that are in line with the National SWM Strategy and Regional SWM Master Plan.
- Review and validate collected data and coach municipal staff on conducting waste composition analysis.
- Propose and establish a sound and economically self-sustaining institutional framework for SWM. The framework is housed within the municipality and is capable of initiating, operating, and supervising the delivery of SWM services.
- Identify the appropriate technologies and approaches for SWM that are effective, efficient, and sustainable.
- Investigate and propose potential sources of revenue for the sustainability of the SWM system.
- Coach Berqesh staff to implement plans that incorporate continuous education and outreach programs.
